In 1997, Hardee's was acquired by CKE Restaurants, the parent company of Carl's Jr. CKE Restaurants rebranded many Hardee's locations as Carl's Jr. restaurants in the Western United States, while Hardee's remained the brand name in the Eastern United States. 

Today, Hardee's has over 1,800 locations in the United States and other countries.

Carl's Jr. was founded in 1941 by Carl Karcher in Los Angeles, California. 

The chain grew quickly, and by the 1970s, had over 300 locations throughout California. Carl's Jr. became known for its charbroiled burgers and unique menu offerings, such as the Western Bacon Cheeseburger and the Six Dollar Burger.

In 1997, CKE Restaurants acquired Hardee's and began rebranding many Hardee's locations as Carl's Jr. restaurants in the Western United States.
